PVD TiC-X
Achieves a long service life under harsh press forming conditions such as when processing 1.5 GPa ultra-high-tensile-strength materials
PVD TiC-X is a TiC (titanium carbide) coating developed using Toyo's arc-ion plating PVD furnace (TF-778N). It was developed by optimizing the film structure of our PVD TiC coating, which is widely applied mainly in press dies. It can withstand high-load press forming conditions, including when processing ultra-high-tensile-strength materials, and its use greatly improves die service life.
During development of the coating, we verified its life performance under mass production conditions. This means that customers can confidently apply the coating to their processes. Continuous press forming of 1.5 GPa materials was performed under high load conditions with a maximum surface pressure of 900 MPa.
As a result, there was no breakage (cracking or peeling) during continuous processing equivalent to 320,000 shots. As for wear resistance, it was calculated hat 560,000 shots is required to cause 1 μm of coating wear. This confirmed that the coating has sufficient life performance.
Features
PVD TiC-X forms an exceptionally hard film
(Hv = 4000, on a par with that of conventional TiC).The film thickness is approximately twice that of conventional PVD TiC.
Due to its high hardness and low friction, it has extremely high wear resistance.
It is a high-strength coating with superior resistance against peeling.
The shape and precision can be maintained due to low-temperature processing below 500°C.
