  • The goal of the Hiroshima City Outstanding Inventors’ Award is to motivate citizens to create inventions and to stimulate companies to develop new technologies. It gives public recognition to people who have contributed to the industrial development in the city through the creation and practical implementation of patented inventions and other technologies. In FY 2019, Staff Manager Masahiro Kunishige received the Outstanding Invention Award for patenting and implementing a new grinding system. The award ceremony was held on this day at Hiroshima City Hall where Mayor Kazumi Matsui presented the winners with award certificates and prizes.

    Outstanding Invention Award
    Patented Invention: Grinding system
Winner of the Award: Masahiro Kunishige
    Division and Official Position:
    Toyo Advanced Technologies Co., Ltd.,

The patented grinding system, an invention created by the winner of the award, represents a groundbreaking achievement that optimizes the manufacturing process of bearings and similar ring-shaped parts, reduces manpower, and offers other advantages. The processes of grinding inner and outer perimeter surfaces of bearings and other ring-shaped parts used to require separate dedicated grinders. The newly invented grinding system is capable of carrying out combined processes with a single grinder to grind both inner and outer perimeter surfaces. This capability is the reason why the grinding system is being widely implemented throughout the bearing manufacturing industry in Japan, which is a field that grapples with serious labor shortages.

Staff Manager Masahiro Kunishige made the following comment about the award he received, “I am extremely glad that our technology received recognition on this level and that we were able to meet our customers’ expectations. I am going to continue focusing my efforts on developing solutions that our customers need.”
